Bill McKibben
Author. Activist. Environmentalist extraordinaire. Bill McKibben is a co-founder of 350.org, an international campaign that works in 188 countries around the world. Comparing the influence of McKibben's 1989 book The End of Nature, the first book on climate change for a general audience, to that of Steinbeck's environmental classic Log from the Sea of Cortez, Lynne Trulio - chair of the Department of Environmental Studies at SJSU - presented the Steinbeck Award to McKibben on September 11, 2018, before a capacity crowd at Taube Family Auditorium in San Francisco. The award presentation was part of a program hosted by the Commonwealth Club and affiliated with California Governor Jerry Brown's Global Climate Action Summit 2018. In his acceptance speech, McKibben said, "There's no running from the global climate crisis. The lessons of The Grapes of Wrath are as relevant as ever."
